The bearded man in the fuzzy robe stumbles about, grumbling and muttering, clutching his coffee mug as if it is all that is keeping him alive. It is unclear as to what his motivations and intentions are at this particular moment. He finally stations himself in “his chair” and continues to grumble as he squirms about, until finding the perfect position. He sips his coffee. He looks at the dog “what are you looking at, you over-stuffed sausage?” The small black dog just stares back, oblivious to the insult. He wags his tail. The other dog, bigger, comes over and licks his hand. “Hey girl. Good girl. You’re so pretty.” He is no longer grumbling, but almost cooing. “You aren’t fat and stupid like dumb ol’ Gibbs, are you?” Both dogs give him blank stares, as he turns to the small black dog and glares. “Shut up Gibbs. Go away.” Gibbs doesn’t move.
This, is Neighbor Nate.
Neighbor Nate lives with his Woman and two dogs, Gibbs and Zena. Zena is a German Shepherd mix, and he loves her. Gibbs looks like a little black fox, and acts like a little black devil. Neighbor Nate is more than partially convinced that Gibbs is actually a demon, sent to make his life miserable. The Woman loves Gibbs, and she keeps saying absurd things like “but he’s so cute!” and “I just love him.” Sometimes he just can’t understand the Woman. But he loves her. He may be gruff, a little untamed, and has been referred to as a Caveman on more than a few occasions, but he adores his Woman. She see’s his gentle side, his caring side, his goofy side, though few others believe these parts of him exists. He’d do anything for his Woman, and she knows that.
They could not be more opposite, Neighbor Nate and the Woman. They have been married for several years now, and love every minute together. Sure, they have their moments like everyone else, but they are happy. They balance each other out, in the strangest of ways, but it works for them. They see eye to eye when it counts, and they have learned to love their differences. They’ve both seen their dark days, Neighbor Nate more so than the Woman, but they do their best to appreciate when the sun shines.
From the outside looking in, one might be confused as to the happenings of Neighbor Nate and the Woman. Neighbors watching from their windows or overhearing conversations may develop concern. There is nothing traditional or tedious about their household.
If one thing is for sure, it is that there is never a dull moment with Neighbor Nate.
